Floorball is an excellent off-ice training sport for hockey players as you can practice your stickhandling, passing and shooting skills any where at any time. Hockey players will love the “feel” of the stick and the soft hands required to control the ball. You can practice your moves in the basement, at the rink or on the street. Teams can get together to play in a gym, outdoors or in the rink when the ice is out during the summer months

Hockey Canada has partnered with Floorball Canada on the development of Floorball: An Introduction to Hockey. This 10-lesson curriculum is a resource for elementary school teachers in the Canadian school system working with students in Grades 3-6 and can be easily adaptable to your players off ice training sessions.

The 10-lesson curriculum includes lesson plans focusing on:

  • Floorball basics
  • Stickhandling
  • Passing
  • Shooting
  • Game play

Each lesson plan has three components: Getting Ready, FUNdamentals and Learn to Play. For more information on Hockey Canada’s introduction to floorball visit their web site at: Hockey Canada Introduces Floorball
